Gavin was raised in Red Bank, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He attended Red Bank Catholic High School (2008).
Gavin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2012. He spent a year of his undergraduate education in Madrid, Spain. During college, Gavin served as a congressional intern for United States Senator Mark Udall (CO). Gavin volunteered as a tutor at Boulder High School throughout his college career. He tutored students in study skills classes and English as a Second Language (ESL) students. Living in the front range of the Rockies, Gavin spent free time alpine skiing in the mountains.
Gavin attended New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts (Juris Doctorate 2015). Gavin was routinely on the Dean’s List and earned a CALI Award. During law school, Gavin worked as a legal intern and as a student attorney across a range of practice areas: criminal defense and appellate practice (New England Innocence Project); public housing and administrative law (Greater Boston Legal Services); immigration (U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor – Boston Field Office); civil litigation (McElroy Deutsch Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP). Gavin worked as a server at a restaurant throughout law school. Gavin enjoyed running for stress relief, running 10 miles a day 5 days a week.
After law school, Gavin served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Richard W. English, J.S.C., in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth Vicinage. Gavin’s clerkship was split between the Chancery Division, Family Part and the Law Division, Criminal Part. Due to this unusual occurrence, Gavin gained intimate knowledge of the functions and nuances of the Courts. Gavin formed lasting relationships with permanent court staff and attorneys who regularly appeared in the courtroom. These relationships allow Gavin to maintain a competitive advantage over adversaries, particularly those that did not serve as a Judicial Law Clerk prior to commencing their practice of law.
Since completing his one-year clerkship, Gavin has practiced family law in Monmouth County and throughout New Jersey. He worked at prestigious law firms in Monmouth County and honed his practice through those experiences.
